WASC

3  WASC Mid- term Report
2  Focus On Learning

ISE has successful WASC Mid-term visit

On March 23-25, ISE hosted the visiting Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) committee.  ISE is accredited through WASC as well as being recognized by the Thai Ministry of Education.  Our current WASC term runs through June 2011.
The maximum WASC accreditation term is six years.  At the mid-point of the accreditation term (year 3) a team comes out and reviews the progress that the school had made on the recommendations made by the original visiting team.
The WASC philosophy is that school improvement is an ongoing process and all schools need to strive to improve programs regardless of where the school stands in the accreditation cycle.
In April 2005, ISE underwent a Full Self Study visit that resulted in seven recommendations.  Over the past three years, we have been working on making improvements at ISE following the guidelines set up by the WASC team.
The recommendations are in the areas of; 1) Communications, 2) School Identity, 3) English as a Second Language, 4) Staffing, 5) Curriculum and Professional Development, 6) Instructional Leadership and 7) Admissions.
We have been working on these areas and will continue to improve the programs at ISE.
For your information, the visiting committee report will be submitted to the WASC council in California.  The council meets in May and then again in June to review the reports from the member schools who have been visited. We should hear their response to our progress in August.
I would like to thank the leaders of our teams; Heather Naro, Joan Fedoruk and Andrew McDermid as well as Khun Charlie and Khun Pornwillai for their excellent leadership.  Also, many thanks to all the teachers, staff, parents and students who worked on the various committees.  There is more work to be done, of course.
The next visit will be after we complete our Full Self Study in March or April 2011.
